EPISODE 1: "The Elegant Belle" by Mark Aitken (1978-)
Taking inspiration from Chopin and Barrios, I wrote the first iteration of this piece 10 years earlier before finally coming back to complete it. Dedicated to a lost love, it's a melancholy serenade for what wasn't meant to be...

EPISODE 2: "Gnossiennes" No. 1-3 by Erik Satie (1866-1925)
A French composer active at the dawn of the 20th century, Satie was a most dubious character. He composed mostly in the "Impressionist" style (akin to the congruent movement in painting à la Claude Monet). These Gnossiennes play out like mini-meditations, employing exotic scales to further enhance their otherworldly nature...

EPISODE 3 : Two "Silhouettes" by Mark Aitken (1978-)
Ambiguous by design, these two pieces are meant to be similar yet different at the same time. Never more than two notes are ever played simultaneously, creating outlines of figures much like silhouettes. About
Mark Aitken is a classical guitarist and composer. After receiving his music degree from UC Santa Cruz, he went on to perform solo classical concerts (including two performances at the Bear Valley Music Festival) and also played in a band in San Francisco, CA (at venues including The Lost Church, Orange Room, El Rio, and many more). After teaching privately for years, he has since shifted his focus back to composing and recording.
